JOINT & TENDON INJECTIONS

Looking for joint or tendon pain relief?

OUR JOINT & TENDON INJECTION SERVICES

At Evolution-Physio, we offer Ostenil injections for osteoarthritis and tendinopathies to help reduce pain and improve mobility. Our expert physiotherapists provide safe, effective treatments tailored to your needs.

What is Ostenil?

Ostenil is a hyaluronic acid-based injection designed to relieve joint pain and stiffness caused by osteoarthritis and other degenerative conditions. It works by supplementing the natural synovial fluid within the joint, providing lubrication and cushioning to reduce friction and inflammation. Ostenil is an excellent non-surgical option that can provide relief for those looking to improve joint function and quality of life without invasive procedures.

Ostenil comes in different strengths and sizes and does not contain a steroid. The choice between Ostenil, Ostenil Plus and Ostenil Mini depends on the severity of symptoms, the affected joint and its specific needs, and how quickly relief is desired.

Which is the right joint injection for me?

Your physiotherapist will assess which is the right one for you:

  • Ostenil is a standard strength for larger joints such as the knee or shoulder. It provides effective, gradual relief through a series of injections over a few weeks (usually 3 injections over 3 weeks). It’s a good choice for clients with milder symptoms or those preferring a more conservative approach.
  • Ostenil Plus is for larger joints such as the knee or shoulder. It contains a higher concentration of hyaluronic acid, offering more potent lubrication and support. The addition of mannitol (a simple sugar derivative), enables the hyaluronic acid to work for longer and more efficiently in the joint, allowing it to be given as a single dose injection. This option is often ideal for clients with more advanced joint issues or who require quicker, longer-lasting relief.

  • Ostenil Mini is a smaller-volume hyaluronic acid injection specifically formulated for treating smaller joints, such as those in the hands or feet. It works in the same way as Ostenil and is usually given as a course of 3 injections over 3 weeks.

What is Ostenil Tendon?

Ostenil Tendon injections are formulated to reduce pain and inflammation in tendons affected by conditions such as tendinopathy. The injection contains a high-quality hyaluronic acid plus mannitol. It is injected around the affected tendon or into the tendon sheath. It works by lubricating the tendon sheath, reducing friction, and encourages natural healing within the affected area. The addition of mannitol (a simple sugar derivative), enables the hyaluronic acid to work for longer and more efficiently, allowing it to be given as a single dose injection.

Ideal for clients experiencing discomfort in areas like the Achilles, elbow, or rotator cuff tendons, Ostenil Tendon injections offer a non-surgical approach to relieve pain and improve mobility, helping patients regain their strength and return to activity.

What do we offer at Evolution-Physio?

At Evolution-Physio, we offer non-guided Ostenil joint and tendon injections as part of our comprehensive approach to soft tissue & joint care. Our Consultant Physiotherapist, Peter, has a Level 7 post-graduate certification in Soft Tissue & Joint Injection Therapy. He specialises in Ostenil joint and tendon injections and is highly experienced. Peter will always fully assess to ensure that an injection is appropriate and to determine which is the best injection for your area of pain, your symptoms and your goals.

If you are a new client interested in this service, please get in touch to discuss your requirements. We ask for all new clients to book an initial assessment appointment whereby we will fully assess to ensure it is appropriate. If it is, you will receive your injection within that appointment. If you are an existing client, please discuss this with your physiotherapist during your treatment appointment. The cost of the injection is in addition to the consultation fee.

How long does it last? Is Ostenil safe?

Ostenil is injected directly into the joint affected by arthritis or into the tendon or sheath for tendinopathies. You may not notice any benefit immediately after the injection, but you will gradually experience a reduction in pain and stiffness. The improvement in symptoms usually lasts for several months, with clinical trials showing the effects can last for 6-12 months. Some clients may experience benefits longer than 12 months, while some may require additional injections sooner. The duration of effect depends on several factors such as the severity of the condition, your activity level and your body’s response to the injection. When the effects have worn off, you can safely have another injection if deemed appropriate by our physiotherapist.

The hyaluronic acid in Ostenil is very pure and is manufactured using a process called fermentation. It contains no animal proteins, which means it is very unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. Ostenil has been extensively tested and has not been found to cause any serious side effects. In very rare cases, as with any injection, there is a very small risk of infection and you may experience pain, redness, or swelling that settles within a few days.

Ostenil, Ostenil Plus, Ostenil Mini and Ostenil Tendon are Registered Trademarks of TRB Chemedica UK Ltd. This is the official UK distributor of Ostenil products and genuine products carry the UK flag on the packaging. Evolution-Physio is an Ostenil Approved Clinic with TRB Chemedica UK Ltd and we only purchase our products through them.
